Meter Reads
What is a meter reading? A meter reading is the count of copies made on your copier. A ‘click” is counted each time a sheet of paper passes through the transport section of your copier. It is a cumulative total—starting a “0” and continuing on for the life of your copier. The meter reading documents the usage of your copier.
There are generally two types of meter readings. Some copiers will have a mechanical meter reading. It is found in a small window on your copier and looks like the odometer on your car. It turns over a number with each copy made similar to the odometer turning over with each mile. The second way is an electronic meter. This meter is accessed through the keypad of your copier. The electronic meter will also include several other counts as well as the copies made on your copier. They may include prints, black/white copies and color copies (on full color equipment), scans, faxes, and the various sizes of paper used.
As meter readings calculate the usage of your copier, they are used for several purposes. Maintenance billing is based upon the number of copies used. Preventive maintenance routines, parts replacements and supply shipments are also based upon copies used. Meter readings also allow us to track a customer’s historical usage which helps us to recommend the appropriate equipment when time for a new copier.
